Cold chain and logistics for COVID-19 vaccine in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Strengthening logistics and cold chain in support of health authorities for the deployment of COVID-19 vaccine.

The deployment of the Covid-19 vaccine poses unprecedented logistical challenges for health authorities. The large quantity of vaccine, its special storage conditions, the number of new vaccination sites, and the urgency of the rollout require an efficient and appropriate supply chain and cold chain.

We conducted a complete inventory of cold chain equipment and a rapid assessment of management procedures in each of the country’s autonomous entities. Based on this, we developed a multi-year plan to rehabilitate the cold chain and strengthen the supply chain. This plan was developed in collaboration with the health authorities of the various entities and enabled the UNICEF country office to mobilize adequate financial resources from international donors.
